WAYNE – August of 2005 marked the date where Wayne Industries, the Wayne Chamber of Commerce and the Wayne Main Street Program all combined to form Wayne Area Economic Development.
Plan on joining WAED on Friday, October 16 from Ekeko Blends located at 110 Main Street in Wayne. In-person chamber coffee will begin at 10 a.m. with the virtual ChamberPercs beginning at 10:15 a.m. on the Wayne, NE Facebook page.
Luke Virgil is the Executive Director for WAED and explained why the group chose to host chamber coffee at Ekeko Blends.
“Our office is not really conducive to hosting a chamber coffee,” said Virgil. “And with everything for COVID right now we wanted to make sure that people could distance a little bit better. Since Mytzy has not been operating Ekeko Blends as a business recently she said we could use the space.”
Joining Virgil in the office are assistant director Irene Mock as well as marketing, events and tourism coordinator Abby Schademann.
Visit wayneworks.org, stop by the WAED office at 108 West 3rd Street or call 402-375-2240 with any questions. Also, like Wayne, NE on Facebook for more information.
Virgil wants to also thank the community for all of the support they’ve provided WAED.
“We try to be visible but we also try to be behind the scenes a lot of the time,” Virgil added. “I do appreciate all the support the people give us through the year because it takes the village. We want to be helpful to those businesses that need it. So, if you ever need anything please reach out to us whether you’re a member or not.”
WAED is currently working on Christmas on Main but are trying to plan the event around COVID. Also, the end of the year means the turnover in membership and Wayne Area Economic Development is also working on solicitations in 2021.
