Virgil Provides Chamber Update, Complete Interview Found Under Podcasts

WAYNE – The monthly update from Wayne Area Economic Development was aired on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 and The City ‘KCTY 98.9/1590 during the “View from Wayne America” Wednesday.

Earlier this month on November 6, an Ace Community Meeting was held at the Wayne Fire Hall.

Executive Director with WAED, Luke Virgil said the community meeting provided extremely valuable feedback for the investors.

“We had some exercises where folks had to put stuff on a 2X2 grid about products,” said Virgil. “We had people describe about their worst and best experiences in a retail facility and then we just had some descriptions of what people at the meeting felt the store can do to be involved in the community.”

Close to 80 people were in attendance during the meeting that lasted nearly an hour and 45 minutes. Again, the Ace store in Wayne would offer more than just hardware including home products.

Ace in Wayne is still projecting to be open in the Spring of 2020.

“It’s all about how they can get into the building,” Virgil added. “How if they have to make changes to the building, how they can get the people in there, finding the right employees, getting them trained, getting all of the product into the building.”

Another WAED event taking place throughout the holiday season is the Stamp Card Promotion. Once you fill out a $100 card, the chamber office will then collect the cards to put in the drawings leading up until the final drawings of $200 each on Friday, December 20. Other drawings will be held on Friday, December 6 and 13 of $50.

“For us at the chamber we still want to promote all of our local shops and vendors,” Virgil mentioned. “Because they really do need the support year round. It doesn’t matter if it’s Black Friday (November 29) or Shop Small Saturday (November 30), be sure to shop with them this holiday season; try and shop local first”

This year’s Ag Outlook Seminar and Appreciation Lunch will mark the 12th annual and is scheduled for Friday, December 6. The event will be held at the Wayne Fire Hall. The only way to get a ticket is from sponsoring businesses.

The Wayne Area Economic Development office will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday (Thursday/Friday). Contact the chamber office at 402-375-2240 or stop by 108 West Third Street for more information or if you have any questions.
