Tilden Time Capsule Opened

TILDEN – A hundred-year-old time capsule nearly disappeared forever.

Construction crews are currently building a new school at the location.

During demolition demolishing workers almost overlooked the capsule in the ruble.

Elkhorn Valley Public Schools Superintendent Keith
Leckron explained what happened that day.

“A construction foreman found, inside the corner stone, a time capsule. It was a copper box. It was soldered shut and we pried it open.”

Inside the time capsule, there was a newspaper from 1913, containing a special-edition article of the fiftieth anniversary of the Gettysburg Address.

Also in the capsule, bank statements and a bible published in 1856 and presented to the Mason lodge of Tilden.

Pictures of Tilden among other various documents round off the items.

Folks in Tilden were close to missing out on a piece of Nebraska history.
