PONCA – On Saturday, October 6 Ponca State Park will be hosting historical and educational programs based from the Lewis and Clark era. A replica Mackinaw style work boat will be going on a 12- mile river voyage starting at the Randall Creek Recreation in South Dakota and ending at Ponca State Park in Nebraska. The journey started on September 30. Groups of re-enactors making the journey will be presenting historical and educational programs all along the way. The crew consists of students of American history and in particular the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Program times are scheduled for 10:30 a.m.,2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Back in 2001 this crew made its first river journey on the Missouri in a replica white pirogue. The original white pirogue from the Lewis and Clark Expedition is the only boat that started with them in 1804 and came back down river with the crew in the fall of 1806. The White Pirogue II is christened the Dale G. Clark and will recreate once more the Missouri River homeward journey on the trail of Lewis and Clark.
