Superintendent To Work With CWP To Organize First Community Meeting For Facility Improvement

WAYNE – After board members took a tour of the Wayne elementary school Monday evening, the regularly scheduled Wayne Community Schools Board of Education meeting was held in the elementary commons.

Early in the meeting, board members accepted the resignation of Jesse Mayo from his resource and special education position. Mayo will remain in his role until the end of the 2019-20 school year as the school will post the position and get moving on applications immediately.

The school board then had a discussion about the need for para-professionals especially in the special education area.

Wayne Community Schools superintendent Dr. Mark Lenihan said they’ll bring back information in March with an AIM format to prepare for the next school year. A proposal would take about two months to pass.

Board members approved the consulting fee of $6,000 for services through Carlson West Povondra. Dr. Lenihan stated that the price would reduce by half if the board decides to move forward on any type of building project. CWP will look to hold approximately six community group meetings over about a 12-week period with the first to be held possibly before the March board meeting.

Another discussion item was brought forward about an area for a batting cage to be used between the baseball and softball associations. The Wayne Wrestling Club currently rents the west side of O’Reilly’s and there is another space that is open.

Cost to lease the space would be $200 a month with an average utility bill being $100 as the two programs would lease the area three months each while the remaining six months could be leased by the school. There would be no increase on insurance as each athlete would be covered under the liability of the school or from each sport who has their own insurance. No action was taken on the item as the baseball and softball boards were still planning to meet.

Dr. Lenihan will join Dan on “The View from Wayne America” Wednesday morning just after 9 a.m. on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9.

The next Wayne Community Schools Board of Education meeting will be held on Monday, March 9 at 5 p.m. back at the high school.
