Union Standoff Ends With Man In Custody

UNION – Cass County sheriff’s deputies, Nebraska State Patrol troopers and a patrol SWAT team negotiated with a 38-year-old man holed up in a mobile home in Union after he shot at deputies Monday morning.

Sheriff William Brueggemann the suspect walked out of the residence around 4:30 Monday afternoon and was taken into custody.

Deputies were called around 9 a.m. due a disturbance at his father’s house. The man’s father met deputies at the residence and a perimeter was established with deputies heard a shot from inside of the residence.

Additional deputies responded.

Brueggemann: “Numerous gun shot’s were heard  coming from the interior of the residence during the several hours of the stand-off.”

The standoff caused Highway 34 to be closed. A school bus from Nebraska City was diverted to another location for parents to pick up children.

The Nebraska State Patrol and s SWAT response team were called to the incident.
