WAYNE – An event promoting breast cancer awareness will make a return in early October following a year off due to COVID-19.
Pink Flamingo Nite will be held for the sixth time and is sponsored by Our Savior Lutheran Church Women of the ELCA, Providence Medical Center and Pac N Save with supporting funds provided by Thrivent Financial.
The Thursday, October 7 event will last from 5:30 – 9 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church located at 5th & Main Street.
Kim Dunklau, event organizer, said funds will assist the PMC Oncology Department.
“We do have Providence Medical Center here the Oncology department sharing information about breast cancer,” said Dunklau. “It’s a night for ladies to get together and share with each other.”
Vendors will be open for shopping from 5 – 9 p.m. while a light meal (gluten free option) will be available from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. and live music provided by Sherie Lundahl throughout the evening. The Jug Store will also offer a cash wine bar with a portion of sales being donated to Pink Flamingo Nite. A photo booth will be on hand and door prizes will be awarded as attendees are encouraged to dress in pink for some extra fun.
This year’s speaker will be Nicole Philips, a breast cancer survivor. She’ll speak starting at 7 p.m. on the topic of kindness which lines up with the 2021 theme of ‘Spread Kindness like Wildflowers”
An 88X93 inch quilt will also be raffled off.
“That was made by Vernae Luhr,” Dunklau added. “She made it in honor of her sister who is battling breast cancer. So, we have raffle tickets that are available for that quilt. It’s a gorgeous queen-sized quilt.”
Cost for raffle tickets include one for $5 or five for $10. The winner will be drawn the evening of the event as the winner need not be present to win.
Deadline to purchase Pink Flamingo Nite tickets is Friday, October 1 as they cost $10. Tickets can be purchased at Bank First, Elkhorn Valley Bank, F&M Bank, State Nebraska Bank & Trust, Swans Apparel, IKT, Hair Envy, Providence Pharmacy, Wayne Area Economic Development, Missa Sue’s Salon (Laurel), The Quilt Shop (Wakefield), Our Savior Lutheran Church and other participating locations.
“That if they’re unable to attend on Thursday night, October 7, we will have a recording of the program available,” Dunklau mentioned. “That they can still help support our fundraiser by purchasing a recording of it.”
