WAYNE – Organizers through Our Savior Lutheran Church are putting on a Northeast Nebraska Muscle walk, run and bike event in late September and are looking for sponsors in supporting a great cause.
Funds from the community event will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) as those wishing to sponsor and promote their business have until Tuesday, August 31 to sign up.
Dr. Karen Longe with KEL Physical Therapy joined the “View from Wayne America” last week and had exciting news to share from her business.
“Dr. Gail McCorkindale has joined our practice,” said Longe “She will bring her experience and her passion for learning and her passion for physical therapy to continue to serve northeast Nebraska.”
KEL Physical Therapy is located at 214 North Pearl Street in Wayne as they’re open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 402-999-4564 for more information at KEL Physical Therapy.
Longe added the Northeast Nebraska Muscle walk, run and bike event will be held on Sunday, September 26 at 3 p.m. from the Wayne Fire Hall.
“We are going to have a 5k option for our runners and a one-mile option for our runners and for our walkers,” Longe added. “The bike ride will be a six-mile bike ride and we’ll be using the community trail. We’ll be having a staggered start, so our bikers will go first, our faster runners will go second, our recreational runners will go third and then we’ll have our walkers.”
The event will also be wheel chair friendly.
Local Wayne resident, Zach Jorgensen is the spokesperson for this event who is 24 years old and was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy when he was five years old. He has been in a wheel chair since age 10.
“I actually just got to know Zach a few weeks ago and I’ve just been very impressed by this young man,” Longe mentioned. “He is just such an inspirational person, he’s an inspirational speaker, he’s an author. So, I just really encourage everyone to come out and get a chance to meet Zach, talk with Zach and just hear his story.”
After graduating from Wayne High, Jorgensen attended University of Nebraska – Omaha and received a degree in graphic arts and marketing.
Sponsorships range from $100 (The Flex); $175 (The Difference Maker) and $250 (The Heart) with incentives from each package. Checks can be made out to Our Savior Lutheran Church as all sponsorship funds again will go towards the event and MDA.
Call 703-946-3227 for more information or stop by Our Savior Lutheran Church to get signed up.
Registration for those who would like to participate in the event is $10 for adults and $5 for youth 12 and under.
