Single, Multi-Family Housing Programs Addressed During Community Meeting

WAYNE – Area realtors, lenders and home buyers attended two presentations about “Hometown Housing Opportunities” Tuesday afternoon at the 4th Jug in Wayne.

Presenters from the United State Department of Agriculture Rural Development (RD) talked about single and multi-family housing programs.

Megan Weaver, Executive Director for the Wayne Community Housing Development Corporation talked about what she took away from the two presentations.

“The Farm Housing was something I wasn’t aware of,” said Weaver. “That I think we might be able to use in our community between our dairy’s and you know Michael Foods. That might be an option for us to group our housing market a little bit.”

Single Family Housing Specialist, Krista K. Mettscher and Multi-Family Housing Specialist, Kimberly M. Fehringer presented during the USDA Rural Development Community meeting.

Single Family Housing Program Director, Michael T. Buethe stated after the meeting they were in Schuyler recently and Wayne was their fifth meeting. Last year the USDA held around 15 Rural Development meetings.

It was a good opportunity for developers, home buyers, real estate agents and others to be refreshed and to help more people in the community.

On May 1, Governor Pete Ricketts announced the recipients for the Rural Workforce Housing Fund. The Cities of Wayne and Wakefield were awarded grant money as between the two communities there is a total of $1.639 million that will be used for workforce housing.

“The community of Wayne has approximately $700,000 that can be used for new construction, construction loans…just a plethora of different housing programs,” Weaver added. “And there’s no income restrictions.”

The group is also in the process of putting together their revolving loan committee that will review all the projects. Recommendations will be made to the Wayne Community Housing Board of Directors for final approval with funds being made available in mid-July.
