WAYNE – Following the announcement that Shopko Pharmacy in Wayne had closed and prescriptions will be filled at U-Save Pharmacy which began Monday, January 14, corporate released a list of store closures after filing for chapter eleven bankruptcy protection.
Shopko is headquartered Wisconsin and will be closing 105 stores – a mix of both regular Shopko stores and Shopko Hometown locations, which serve smaller markets. However, the Wayne Shopko Hometown is not on the list.
Nebraska store closings will include the 4 regular stores in Lincoln one store in Bellevue and Shopko Hometown stores in Ord, Plattsmouth and Kimball. According to a Shopko news release, the financial restructuring will allow the chain to implement a path forward to enhance profitability and growth.
Also, 72 Shopko Pharmacy locations have closed. Other Nebraska pharmacy closures along with Wayne include Grand Island, three Lincoln stores, Bellevue, Norfolk and Omaha.
Shopko has obtained up to $480 million in financing from lenders including Wells Fargo that will ensure suppliers and other business partners get paid. Of the seven stores, not including Wayne, pharmacy prescriptions were transferred to Hy-Vee for all except Bellevue is a Kroger owned location.
Shopko CEO Russ Steinhorst says this was a difficult decision but that he is confident that by operating a smaller and more focused store footprint they will be able to build a stronger Shopko chain.
Shopko states they, “will be sure to communicate with everyone throughout our reorganization and give regular updates as important decisions and major developments take place.”
The Wayne Shopko Hometown is located at 615 Dearborn Street.
Nebraska Shopko/Hometown Stores Expected Closure Dates:
March 3, 2019: Lincoln (3400 North 27th Street); Ord (133 Trotter Ave.) and Kimball (1217 South Highway 71).
April 8, 2019: Plattsmouth (211 S. 23rd Street)
April 15, 2019: Lincoln (4200 South 27th Street); Bellevue (601 Galvin Road South); Lincoln (100 South 66th Street) and Lincoln (6845 South 27th Street).
