Shop Small Business Saturday, WAED Notes

WAYNE – November 26 is Small Business Saturday as all are encouraged to seek out and shop at small, local businesses during this nationwide event.

According to a release, Small businesses in Nebraska form the backbone of the economy, nearly 100% of all employer businesses are small firms. There are 179,509 small businesses in Nebraska—99.1% of all businesses in the state.

Earlier this month, Wayne Area Economic Development began the Holiday Stamp Card Promotion.

Double stamps will be offered on both Friday and Saturday, November 25 – 26.

Each card represents $200 in purchases as $700 in Chamber Bucks will be given away to shoppers.

Three names will be drawn each week at Chamber Coffees beginning December 2 for $50 each with a final drawing for two $200 winners on December 16.

Also, winners in the Holiday Business Window Decorating Contest were WW Galore (1st place) and Magnuson Hopkins Eye Care (2nd place). Each will receive an advertising package from KTCH/KCTY Radio and the Wayne Herald/Morning Shopper.

Make sure to also mark down the date of Tuesday, November 29 at 5:30 p.m. from the Wayne Fire Hall. During the Wayne City Council retreat, WAED will be present to discuss housing development with the Mayor/Council.

WAED will present four options they would like staff to consider, all of which are specific to single-family (SF) lot development and would use City funds to accelerate the projects:

Interest Buy-Downs via Participation Loans; City/CRA develop another ‘Western Ridge’; City buy-back guarantees for SF Homes; Sales Tax Revenue earmarked for lot development by Wayne Community Housing Development Corporation.

WAED will be asking the Mayor/Council to pursue one of the four options.

The Council retreat starting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday November 29 from the Wayne Fire Hall (510 Tomar Drive), is open to the public.
