She Devils Dance Team Places Runner-Up In High Kick Competition

GRAND ISLAND – Congratulations to the Wayne She Devils Dance team on finishing runner-up at state Wednesday.

The Nebraska Coaches Association 2021 Nebraska State Cheer and Dance Championships are being held at the Heartland and Event Center in Grand Island from February 17 – 20.

Class C1, C2 and D competed in dance Wednesday while Classes A and B will be showcased Thursday. Classes A and B cheer will be on Friday with Classes C1, C2 and D on Saturday.

Dance categories include Jazz, High-Hop, Pom and High Kick.

Wayne placed second in the Class C1 High Kick category with 74 points just behind state champion Sidney with 75.10 points. The She Devils, coached by Halley Carroll and Courtney Marksmeier, also tied for fifth with Battle Creek in the Hip Hop category with 74.38 points. Conestoga was crowned champion with 80.10 points.

Team members include Rochelle Ping, Paige Milliken, Kiara Doring, Candace Heggemeyer, Kiara Haase, Leah Perry, Sydney Redden, Jaydyn Jorgensen, Reagan Backer, Taytum Sweetland, and Hope O’Reilly.

Pender was crowned state champion in the Class C2 Hip Hop category with 71.55 points and runner-up in the Pom category with 68.63 points. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge placed fourth in the Pom category with 64.58 points and sixth (66.73) in Hip Hop. Ponca also finished sixth in Pom (63.50).

In Class D, Randolph won the Pom category with 72.73 points and the Hip Hop category with 71.03 points. Hartington Cedar Catholic finished fourth (69.13) in the Pom dance category as well as fourth in the Hip Hop (69.18)
