Service Learning Project To “Cram The Van” For Area Food Pantry

WAYNE – Make plans to “Cram the Van” during a Wayne Food Drive this week for a Wayne State College Service Learning Project.

The van will be in two locations this week where donated items will assist the Wayne Food Pantry. According to a release, WSC students hope you will help them “Cram the Van” in recognition of National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week (Nov. 10 – 19).

“Cram the Van” will first be at Shopko (615 Dearborn Street.) on Wednesday, November 14 and then at Pac N Save (1115 W 7th Street) on Thursday, November 15. The van will be open for collection from noon until 6 p.m. both days.

Facts from National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week:

  • More than 40 million Americans are at risk of suffering from hunger
  • Nearly 15 million children live in poverty
  • A survey of students found that 60% of students were food insecure, meaning that they lacked reliable access to sufficient amounts of affordable nutritious food

The Wayne Food Pantry is in need of toilet paper, soap, paper towels along with cereal and soup.
