Senators, Speaker Of Legislature To Speak During Annual Forum Friday

WAYNE – Hear more about a sub-committee through Wayne Area Economic Development while taking in some information from local state senators.

Join the Government Affairs Committee and Wayne State College for Friday morning Chamber Coffee on March 16 at 10 a.m. from Gardner Hall. You’ll want to get there early as the event will start right at 10 a.m. prior to the 27th annual Northeast Nebraska Legislative Forum will start at 10:30 a.m. The forum will last roughly an hour and a half.

Executive Director for Wayne Area Economic Development, Luke Virgil said northeast Nebraska senators are invited to talk about what is going on in at the legislature.

“Then we always try and invite high school students from area high schools,” said Virgil. “So, that if the government classes would like to come out or the social studies classes want to come out and learn about the state legislative process or state government process they can do that.”

Those attending include Speaker Jim Scheer along with Senators Joni Albrecht (District 17), Lydia Brasch (District 16) and Paul Schumacker (District 22).

The public is invited to come out and hear from your local senators as Virgil attended the Legislative Forum when he was a college student.

“It’s something that I’ve always known about and always tried to participate in if I was available,” Virgil added. “And it’s kind of a neat turn of fate that I get to help plan it now.”

The Government Affairs Committee meets twice a month at 8 a.m. from the Coffee Shoppe as their next meeting is Monday, March 26.
