LINCOLN – Senator Joni Albrecht began her update by advocating for LB596. This has been dubbed the “Higher Blend Ethanol Tax Credit.” Essentially, retailers that sell higher ethanol blends would be eligible for an income tax credit. This is designed to help Nebraska’s economy, while emitting cleaner fuel for the environment.
LB597 is another bill the senator supports. This would give tax relief for parents that fall victim to stillborn babies. Stillborn births result in higher hospital bills than other births. Additionally, the tax credit would help cover funeral costs, grief counseling, and lost income.
Albrecht touched on two bills addressing property tax issues. Those bills are LB133 and LR11CA. This would overhaul Nebraska’s tax system. It would repeal state income, sales, inheritance, and property taxes. A consumption tax would replace this to eliminate double taxation.
Online comments regarding legislation can be submitted as a part of the legislative record. Statements can be made under each individual bill’s webpage.
