Senator Joni Albrecht Updates District 17 About New Grandchild, State’s Energy Issues, Inheritance Tax

LINCOLN – Senator Joni Albrecht’s 13th grandchild was born last week. Berkley Grace is the third daughter of the senator’s daughter and son-in-law, Michaela and Lee Kortus.

Energy usage has been a hot topic, given the extremely cold weather the state has seen recently. Albrecht made sure to thank the trucking industry for its efforts moving fuel sources during this crisis in addition to its work in moving supplies during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Revenue Committee heard bills relating to inheritance taxes. Nebraska is one of six states that impose this type of tax. Only Nebraska and Pennsylvania tax linear heir, such as children and grandchildren.

Robert Clements, a senator for Elmwood, introduced LB310. This would cut the state’s inheritance tax by increasing the amount of property value that is exempt from the tax. Counties collect this tax, which has increased faster than inflation. LB310 would modernize Nebraska’s tax code.

Senator Joni Albrecht encouraged her constituents to share their thoughts and questions with her by calling 402-471-2716, or by emailing her at jalbrecht@leg.ne.gov.
