RC&D To Host Bee-Friending Event

OSMOND – Join the Northeast Nebraska Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council on Prairies’ Edge Organic Farm for a “Bee-friending” workshop.

Near Plainview, the event will be held outdoors on the Dennis Wacker farm located at 86288 540 Ave. in Osmond on Tuesday, August 7. The farm is located three miles east of Plainview on Highway 20 and then south one and a quarter mile on 540 Ave.

According to a release form the RC&D, anyone interested in learning more about bees is encouraged to attend this workshop.

Hank Scott, an experienced beekeeper and Dennis Wacker, a novice beekeeper and organic farmer will provide an informative presentation beginning at 2 p.m. followed by questions. Attendees will also get an up-close look at bee hives as well as a short walk through native wildflowers and grass habitat of the bees until 4 p.m. Participants will leave with more knowledge about caring for pollinators in their own backyard.

Resources and direct assistance to those interested in this topic will be offered while the workshop will provide one-on-one education on beekeeping and connect would-be beekeepers to those with experience.

Pre-registration was due by last Thursday, August 2.

The Northeast Nebraska RC&D Council looks forward to continuing their service to citizens through projects that will make life better for people in Antelope, Cedar, Dixon, Knox, Pierce and Wayne counties.
