WAYNE – From 1993 – 2018 Rainbow World Preschool and Child Development Center has grown from 50 kids (14 years ago) to an enrollment of 150 today. Make plans Friday evening to stop by during an open house in celebration of their 25 years in Wayne.
On Friday, April 20 between 6:30 – 8 p.m. make plans to visit Rainbow World, located at 1110 E 14th St. Rainbow World is a non-profit childcare and early education center serving infants (six months old) up until school age 12 years old.
Shelly Fehringer has been the Director at Rainbow World for the past 14 years. When she came in some changes were made.
“As the Director, when I came in we changed everything to development early-based,” said Fehringer. “So, everything we do in the classroom is to work on their developmental skills of the children.”
Two additions under Fehringer were also the addition of preschool/school age 10 years ago and five years ago the infant and toddler addition.
Rainbow World runs about 150 kids that are enrolled from not just Wayne, but children from Wakefield, Pender, Pierce and as far away as O’Neill.
25 years ago, some parents got together and said they need childcare in Wayne. After discussing their ideas and getting a grant their first addition was constructed in 1993.
Fehringer said they chose the evening time for their open house to have normal daycare for their families as Rainbow World is rarely closed.
“So, we try to stay open as much as we possibly can for the families, so they can go to work,” Fehringer added. “But, having families come out, see the teachers, see them in a different perspective; not in the classrooms working.”
Door prizes will also be available along with cupcakes, fruit platters and more.
Preschool is full, but there will be a few infant open spots in the next year.
“Thank you to those people who had the idea to come out and get it going,” Fehringer mentioned. “Get it started in the community and the fact that they put in a lot of really hard work to get us where we’re at today.”
