Pre-Register For Youth Mentor Hunt, Adult Mentors Are Needed

WAYNE – Youth between the age of 11-15 years old are invited to Izaak Walton Lake for the 19th annual Youth Mentor Hunt this weekend.

Scheduled for Sunday, October 14 the hunt will start at 11:30 a.m. from Ike’s Lake with a hot dog lunch.

Pre-registration is required for youth who have successfully completed a Nebraska Game and Parks Hunter Safety Course. The Youth Mentor Hunt will provide an opportunity for youth and adults to learn the importance of wildlife habitat, farm safety and having fun in the great outdoors.

Different stations will include archery, a live hunt, blue rock, air rifle, habitat education and more. Each participant will get a hunter vest, hat and a chance to win a shotgun at the Pheasants Forever Banquet while having a mentor with them throughout the afternoon. A lifetime hunting permit will also be given away at the Youth Mentor Hunt courtesy of the Nebraska Game & Parks and Pheasants Forever.

According to a release, the Logan Creek Pheasants Forever Chapter #303 is also in need for adult volunteers to serve as mentors for the youth.

Directions to Ike’s Lake: head west on 860th road off of Highway 15 (north of Wayne), drive for two miles then turn north on 574th Ave. and the entrance is on your right.
