WINSIDE – Plan on joining Roy Reed Unit 252, American Legion Auxiliary in Winside for their monthly meeting.
From the Winside Legion Post, the group will open their meeting at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 2.
The unit will need to have their annual report into Lincoln by April 20. Members are being asked to have your stats at the meeting or email Beverly or Laura by April 13.
With Memorial Day fast approaching, Roy Reed Unit 252, American Legion Auxiliary will be creating their 5-poppy wreaths for seven area cemeteries around Winside. This will be done prior to the start of the meeting on Saturday morning.
Members should also bring suggestions for the Memorial Day dinner.
The group has volunteers for Poppy Day, which is Saturday, May 28, from 9 a.m. until noon at Wayne locations of Bomgaars, Pac N Save, ACE Hardware & Home, Quality Foods, downtown and a Poppy display at Kinship Pointe. If you want to join in this, plan on showing up at one of these locations and there will be room for more volunteers. Displays will be set out in Winside at Wayne County Bank, the Co-op Store and Co-op.
Everyone is invited to wear a Memorial Poppy over the Memorial Day weekend of May 27 – 30 this year to honor our Veterans and remember those who have worn the uniform of the United States Armed Forces. The Unit especially wants to remember those who gave their all – their lives for our freedoms. Freewill donations are accepted at all locations.
Proceeds from the annual Poppy Day are used in service to Veterans as no funds are kept by the Unit. Roy Reed Unit 252 ALA is allowed to recover the cost of the Memorial Poppy. The Unit ordered 2,000 small Memorial Poppies this year to meet their needs of making the 5-poppy wreaths and to have extra for the general public to wear one. The group sincerely appreciates all the support they receive for this program.
The Unit will also plan on participating in the Color Guard for the 4th of July parade. Again, volunteers are welcome to help distribute the Memorial Poppy to parade spectators. Donations will be accepted during the parade as well.
