WAYNE – Visitors of the inaugural Pop-Ups and Popcorn event enjoyed the Thursday afternoon heat which led into a nice cool evening for an outdoor movie provided by the Majestic Theatre.
From the parking lot of Ace Hardware & Home, located at 615 Dearborn Street, just over 100 people attended the evening movie of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial after sunset.
Wayne Area Economic Development Tourism, Events and Marketing Coordinator, Abby Schademann said the afternoon began with more than 15 pop-up vendors and kid’s activities.
“Had a pretty good turnout; this is a first-time event,” said Schademann. “We didn’t know what to expect but we were really happy with the results. Had quite a few people come through and I think the vendors were overall happy with who they all saw.”
The host for Pop-Ups and Popcorn was the Retail Tourism and Hospitality group.
Once the sun set, the breeze stayed steady and provided perfect weather for the outdoor movie as families brought their bag chairs and blankets.
“If you attend and you notice that the screen is a little bit more square than what a typical movie screen is,” Schademann added. “I did just learn that because E.T. is shot in a narrower screen, they can’t show it on a wide screen. So, fun fact for everybody.”
Pop-up vendors also featured a variety of food vendors to go along with concessions provided by the Majestic Theatre.
The group is also hoping to host more like Thursday evening’s Pop-Ups and Popcorn event as the next would be Christmas on Main.
Also, the Wayne Chicken Show is just over a month away being scheduled for Friday, July 9 – Sunday, July 11.
