PONCA – Make sure to save the date for the annual ‘Winterfest’ and ‘First Day Hike’ at Ponca State Park.

According to a release, Saturday, December 31 and Sunday, January 1 will mark the dates for both events.

More information will be provided once closer, but families are invited to Ponca State Park for the fruitcake fling, yule log quest, hot chocolate and more.

Upcoming this Thanksgiving weekend at Ponca State Park will feature an introductory course to slingshot from 9 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 26. All equipment is provided as youth must be five years and older with adult supervision to participate. Meet and pay at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex as cost is $1 per 30 rocks.

Throughout the day, make plans to join in on the fun of the ‘Bloodroot Trail Gnome Hunt’. Explore this family friendly trail and search for the 10 gnomes hidden amongst the trees. This trail is approximately one mile and rated easy. Officials ask that participants leave the gnomes on the trail for others to enjoy.

Other events include Bingos/Scavenger Hunts/Passports; Search for Sasquatch; Ponca Packs; Old Oak Trail Self-guided Hike, Creative Snow Building Contest (lasts November 26 – March 19) and Beginner Mountain Bike Trail (located behind campsite G8).
