PONCA – Take part in weekday Ponca State Park activities.

According to a release, open each morning with an introduction course. Wednesday’s will be for tomahawk and atlatl from 9 until 10:30 a.m. for those eight and older with adult supervision while Thursday’s will highlight archery also from 9 – 10:30 a.m. for those age five and older with adult supervision.

All equipment will be provided. Meet and pay at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex as cost is $1 for six tomahawk/atlatl throws and $1 for six arrows for archery.

The Wednesday afternoon event will allow parkgoers to build their own bird feeder while learning about some of the common backyard birds at Ponca State Park. Create a pinecone and peanut butter feeder to take back to your cabin or home for $1 per kit. Pre-register and pay at the Resource and Education Center from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. before meeting behind the Center from 3 – 3:45 p.m.

Looking into Thursday’s afternoon event, ‘Fishing 101’ will be the topic from 3 – 4:15 p.m. Participants are invited to bring their own pole or borrow one. If you’re new to fishing or just looking for some tips of the trade, Ponca State Park staff will be available to help. All anglers 16 and older must have a fishing permit. Meet at the Ponca Pond for this free event.

The aquatic center is open daily from noon until 6 p.m. as cost is $7 for adults (12+) and $5 for those between the ages of 3-12. Hours may change due to weather or staffing.

Also, call or visit the Resource and Education Center to reserve a time for horseback riding. A waiver is required, with a maximum of 12 riders being ages 6 and up. For approximately 45 minutes, cost is $25 per rider as rides may be canceled due to staffing or weather.
