PONCA – With the Missouri River Outdoor Expo slated for next weekend, Ponca State Park will be offering more weekend activities for families to enjoy.

According to a release, open this Saturday morning with introduction to archery from 9 – 11 a.m. and then an introductory course on the slingshot will be at the same time on Sunday, September 11.

Participants must be five and older with adult supervision for both events as cost is $1 per six arrows and $1 per 30 rocks. All equipment is provided and families can meet and pay at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex.

Another event scheduled for Saturday evening is a ‘Full Moon Hike’ starting at 7:45 p.m. Parkgoers will join a park naturalist on the Corps. Of Discovery Trail exploring the night sky while learning about the September full harvest moon. A red headlamp or flashlight is recommended as the approximately 1.5 mile trail is listed moderate to difficult. Meet at the Riverfront Playground for this free event.

Moving into Sunday afternoon, participants will be able to make their own fishing lure between 1 – 1:45 p.m. Colors, sizes and shapes all react differently under water. Visitors will learn how lures work to catch different species of fish and make their own out of everyday materials. Pre-register and pay at the Resource and Education Center between 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. as this event is recommended for ages six and up with adult supervision. Meet behind the Resource and Education Center at 1 p.m. on Sunday as cost is $2 per kit.
