Ponca State Park Organized Numerous Activities For This Weekend (2/5 – 2/7)

PONCA – Ponca State Park has organized self-guided activities for its visitors. The ability to keep the park open will depend on visitor’s compliance with social distancing measures.

There will a scavenger hunt guide available this weekend. Pick up the proper materials at the Resource and Education Center or on Facebook.

The Old Oak Trail will provide a self-guided hike this weekend. Educational stopping points can be found with the trail guide. Pick up a trail guide at the Resource and Education Center or at the trail head near the West Shelter.

“Search for Sasquatch” will resume at the park. Take photos with Sasquatch around the park and share them with the park’s Facebook page.

A gnome hunt will be happening along the Tri-State Overlook Trail. There are ten of these creatures on the path.

Until March 19, the “Snow Creation Building Contest” will be open for submissions. Email a photo of the finished product to lynn.mellick@nebraska.gov. There will be prizes for first through third place. First place will be a free one-night stay in a four-bedroom mini lodge.

Take and go activities have grown in popularity for the park. An interactive guide to finding animal tracks along the park’s trails is available. The guide is free, while supplies last. Additionally, visitors are encouraged to make popcorn garlands to put on trees around the park or take home.
