Ponca State Park Organized Activities For This Weekend, Scheduled For Saturday, April 10

PONCA – Ponca State Park is excited to resume its habitual weekend activities. All programs must be pre-registered for. Call or visit the park office to sign up. Sign up begins at 8:00 a.m. during the morning of the event.

All the following events are offered for Saturday April 10, 2021.

From 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. guests can do the “Bustling Buffalo Hike.” This two-mile trail boasts picturesque views of the Missouri River.

At 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. the “Fossil Hunt” program is offered. Learn about the ancient creatures that lived near the Missouri River.

“What’s the Scat?” is a take-and-go activity. Participants will learn how scat is used to identify animals and what they eat. This is metaphorically conducting using Tootsie Rolls.

There is a self-guided hike along the “Old Oak Trail.” This 1.2-mile trail is rated as moderately difficult and is intended to celebrate 100 years of Nebraska State Parks. There are educational stopping points along the trail.

Ponca Bingo, Scavenger Hunts, and Ponca Passports are all available at the Resource and Education Center.

Additionally, be on the lookout for sasquatch around the park. If you find the wooly creature, snap a selfie, and share it on Facebook or at ngpc.ponca@nebraska.gov. Use the hashtag, “#SasquatchSelfieChallenge.”
