PONCA – Over the next three weekends, Ponca State Park will be hosting their ‘Christmas in the Woods’ activities.

According to a release from Ponca State Park, Saturday, December 7; 14 and 21 will provide an opportunity for families and friends to enhance their holiday celebration with quality time spent together making seasonal crafts and holiday treats. Park-goers will also attend wildlife adaptation programs, participate in guided hikes and take a ride on a holiday lighted hayrack.

Open Saturday morning by celebrating the holiday cheer and plan on decorating a Christmas wreath between 9 – 10:30 a.m. Cost is $1 per wreath with a limit to 20 crafts.

Then, at 11 a.m. stay at the Resource and Education Center for a free event titled ‘Marshmallow Snowman’. With the weather outside turning bitter cold, enjoy the cozy indoors while creating a fun, edible snowman.

Moving into the afternoon, meet the animals of Nebraska between 1 – 2 p.m. and at 2:30 p.m. join a park naturalist for a guided hike on the Whitetail Trail (one-mile). Complete the scavenger hunt as the group will look for tracks, animal homes and birds to earn a fun prize.

Closing out Saturday evening will be lighted hayrack rides at 4:30 p.m. Pre-register for this free event at the Resource and Education Center.

Following the ‘Christmas in the Woods’ celebration the opening three weekends in December, ‘Winterfest’ is scheduled for Saturday, December 28.
