Ponca State Park Excited To Host Educational, Recreational Programs; Weekend Events Canceled Due To Shortage Of Staff

LINCOLN – Ponca state Park regrets to announce due to a shortage of staff all naturalist lead activities have been canceled for this weekend August 28 – 30.  There will be a number of self-guided activities available at the available at the front desk of the resource center. Ponca State Park apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

The park has three events planned for Friday, August 28. In the morning, “Introduction to Slingshot” will be offered. Later that morning, “Nature’s Paint” is offered. This program entails a walk with a naturalist, then participants will paint a landscape. On Friday night, “Campfire Cooking” will occur.

­­Saturday, August 29, will be a busy day at Ponca State Park. “Introduction to Archery” will be taught in the morning. From mid-morning till early afternoon, “Owl Puke” will be conducted. “Owl Puke” will teach participants how owls eat and regurgitate their prey. Later in the day will be the “Critter Corner” activity. Saturday night is when the “Prairie Hike” happens.

Sunday, August 30, contains two programs offered by the state park. “Introduction to Atlatl” can be signed up for. That will run in the morning on Sunday. “Adventure with Whiskers” will teach participants about Nebraska’s fish with an interactive coloring book. This program is available from early Sunday morning till early afternoon.
