PONCA – Ponca State Park hosted its 9th Annual Winterfest last weekend, along with the First Day Hike event.
Both experiences were self-guided this year. Guests hiked the Overlook Trail searching for gnomes and the 16 decorated Christmas trees. The park enjoyed watching people build snow creations, fling fruitcakes, take selfies with Sasquatch, and doing the Yule Log Quest through their smart phones.
“All That Glitters is Snow” was chosen as the most creative name during the Yule Log Quest. That team was from Omaha. The champion Yule Log Quest squad was “Snomeds” from Columbus, Nebraska. They finished with a time of 25 minutes.
The Ryan Olson family won the Best Decorated Cabin contest. The Olson clan resides in Fremont, Nebraska.
Ponca State Park is running a 30 percent discount on lodging from January 2nd – March 31st. For more information, visit Ponca State Park’s Facebook page.
