According to an arrest affidavit from Columbus Police Sgt. Bret Strecker, Jorge Robledo had a handgun in his waistband that night prior to the officers arrival and said he’d shoot anyone nearby if they told officers if he was inside the house at 3410 16th Street. After an anonymous tip that Robledo was in the home, Columbus Police Sgt. Brad Wangler and Officer Jeff Anderson attempted to arrest him.

The affidavit says that inside the house, Robledo shot Sgt. Wangler directly above his heart and the bullet’s impact on his protective vest caused the vest’s trauma plate to injure his shoulder. Police say another bullet entered near Sgt. Wangler’s trachea and exited his lower neck.

When gunshots rang out, a woman with children told police she quickly exited the home. A man, identified as Isreal Robledo, called 911 to say that police were at his house and there was an officer shot and provided a description of the suspect. The affidavit states that two different types of guns were fired inside the house from a .40 caliber and a 9 millimeter. Police say that outside of the home, shell casings were found for a .40 caliber and a .223 caliber.

Sgt. Strecker reported that as medical providers were removing Robledo’s clothes at the hospital, they found 30 grams of methamphetamine on him. Police also found a .45 caliber Auto Ordinance handgun and a loaded Berretta handgun inside the driver’s side door of Robledo’s vehicle.
