WAYNE – In early January the Wayne Shopko Pharmacy stopped serving customers with corporate filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy as several pharmacy locations and stores planned to close nationwide.
Since Monday, January 14, Wayne Shopko Pharmacy clients have been going to U-Save Pharmacy located at 216 East 7th Street
Providence Medical Center is in the process of opening the Providence Community Pharmacy. PMC administration began working quickly to secure a location and a pharmacy team immediately upon the closing notice.
According to a release, this expansion will allow the community to continue to have options when it comes to where they choose to fill their prescriptions.
PMC CEO, Jim Frank said once the announcement came out that the Shopko Pharmacy was closing, internal discussions were held.
“We have actually been talking about retail pharmacy services for quite some time and how we can get into that market,” said Frank. “We saw there was a need and saw there was room.”
The Providence Community Pharmacy will be located at 803 Providence Road, Suite 101 in the Sunnyview Business Park.
Frank added they are optimistic about their opening date with so many moving parts.
“We have to work with the landlord, our suppliers, we have to get furnishing; you know all those logistical items,” Frank added. “So, we’re shooting for mid-March if it works out, great, if not we’ll provide information as we go as to a final opening date.”
PMC already had a supplier for their hospital pharmacy as Providence Community Pharmacy has hired two pharmacists and three pharmacy techs who were previously employed at Shopko.
Providence Medical Center is committed to keeping the public informed.
“We’re just really happy to add the staff and to provide a service in the community that was needed,” Frank mentioned. “Our goal will be to try and provide the same level of customer service that folks are used to from Providence Medical Center.”
