Omaha, Pilger Natives Earn Ponca State Park Snow Creation Building Contest Awards

PONCA – With the rain showers and warmer temperatures here, Spring has sprung and the Snow Creation Building Contest at Ponca State Park concluded this past weekend.

According to a release from Ponca State Park, this past winter was one of the more extreme cold snaps but visitors still put their talents to the test.

Ken Kirkpatrick and family from Omaha won the contest with their “Woodland Surprise” as it greeted gusts exploring the Old Oak Trail. “Woodland Surprise” had some wild cedar hair as well as 3D eyes and arms made from sticks.

First Place Entry: “Woodland Surprise along the Old Oak Trail by Ken Kirkpatrick and family.

Another Omaha native received runner-up being Bennett Amdor and his girlfriend for their mini snowman “Jon Stamos”. The face and hair details of the snowman were made from a Sumac plant.

Second Place Entry: Bennett Amdor’s creation “Jon Stamos”.

Closing out the top three was a creative entry from Karen Kalloff from Pilger. It was bitter cold and the snow just wasn’t sticking; so, Karen made a paper snowman and taped him in her cabin window, earning herself 3rd place with “Baby Its Cold Outside”
