Norfolk Murder Suspect Faces Competency Hearing

MADISON — The suspect in a Norfolk murder case will be examined to determine his competency to stand trial.

Court documents say 49-year-old Rodolfo Castaneda-Morejon was granted a motion to be examined by Norfolk doctor Klaus Hartmann to evaluate his mental competency.  The results of the examination will be shared in a hearing in front of District Court Judge Mark Johnson.

Castandea-Morejon faces first degree murder and felony weapon charges related to the stabbing death of Yosvanis Velazquez-Gomez at a Norfolk apartment last August.

Castaneda-Morejon’s trial date is scheduled for June 12th. He’ll be back in court for a pre-trial hearing on May 6th. He faces the possibility of life in prison – and potentially the death penalty – if convicted.
