WAYNE – Executive Director with Wayne Area Economic Development, Luke Virgil joined Dan Baddorf during the ‘View from Wayne America’ closing out 2020 last week talking about economic development and the annual banquet.
The complete interview can be found at the end of this article that aired on Wednesday, December 30.
Luke Virgil, WAED Executive Director highlighted the new stimulus package which will provide more COVID-19 relief.
“The biggest thing for individual families or tax payers, they’re going to be looking at that one-time check of $600 for individual and $1,200 for a couple,” said Virgil. “Then $600 per dependent child up to the age of 17.”
For businesses, the paycheck protection program has been reactivated which will allow those businesses who received paycheck protection the first time will be eligible. Those who didn’t, will receive first dibs.
Now 501-C6 non-profit businesses will join the 501-C3 non-profits being eligible.
Virgil added when the deadline will be.
“Applications for the second round of paycheck protection for all business needs to be submitted by March 31,” Virgil added. “You’re going to have to work with your primary banker to be able to get that. They have to go through the application process with you similar to what it was over the spring and summer months last year.”
Businesses will again work with their local bankers through the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The traditional date for the annual bank is Sunday, January 31 from the Beaumont Event & Concert Hall. The theme is ‘Community & Unity’ with tickets going on sale in early 2021.
WAED staff will meet with health officials right after Martin Luther King Jr. Day to asses if they can host the banquet in late January.
There is also an alternate date set for Sunday, May 23 in case numbers rise and protocols change.
Most Valuable Patron, Business of the Year, Educator of the Year and Citizen of the Year awards will be announced.
Friday morning Chamber Coffee/Chamber Percs returns this Friday, January 8 hosted by the Wayne State College Center for Applied Technology and Business Technology. The only other host in early 2021 is St. Mary’s grade school on Friday, January 29.
