New Mayor Sworn In At City Council Meeting Tuesday Evening
New Mayor Cale Giese Getting Sworn In By City Attorney Amy Miller

WAYNE – Tuesday evenings regularly scheduled City Council meeting took place at 5:30 in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Cale Giese was sworn in by City Attorney Amy Miller as the new Mayor of the city of Wayne. Jill Brodersen, Matt Eischeid, and Jason Karsky were also sworn in as they continue their roles as Councilmembers. Brodersen was the former Mayor and was selected as the City Council President after being re-elected to Council last month.

After the swearing in of the Councilmembers, Mayor Giese presented outgoing Councilmembers Nick Muir and Rod Greve with Service Plaques and thanked them for their service as Councilmembers.

Action on declaring a “Notice of Vacancy” in Ward 3 and authorizing City Clerk Betty McGuire to publish notice was passed by Council.

The agenda featured four resolutions to be put in front of Council. The first of which amended wage and salary schedule and was passed. Another resolution dealt with adopting a snow removal and ice control operations policy manual suggested by Joel Hansen. That too was passed.

A resolution having to do with approving a contract between the State of Nebraska Department of Economic Development and the City of Wayne was approved. This allows the City of Wayne to use a $475,000 grant to be used for the Nebraska Street Project. This resolution was passed.

The final resolution would approve an interlocal agreement with the Village of Carroll for building inspection services. This resolution was also passed. The City of Wayne has a similar agreement with the Village of Concord.

Action was needed on a pay application in the amount of $60,769 to OCC Builders, LLC for the Wayne Golf and Country Club Clubhouse Improvement Project. Action was approved by Council.

Action on a change order also took place Tuesday evening. This was the fifth changer order for the 2nd Street Storm Sewer Improvement Project for an increase of $18,250 to Robert Woehler and Sons Construction Company, Inc. Action on the changer order was approved. Right after this was approved the payment application was passed by Council. This was the sixth and final payment application.

Appointments needed to be made to a few different committees towards the end of the meeting. First Mayor Giese along with Jill Brodersen and Mark Lenihan were appointed to the Community Redevelopment Authority. Matt Eischeid, Jill Brodersen, and Terri Buck were appointed to the Audit Committee. Jason Karsky was appointed as a Council Representative to the Police Retirement Committee. Terri Buck and Jill Brodersen were appointed to the Wayne Area Economic Development Board as well.

The next regularly scheduled City Council meeting will be on Tuesday, December 18 at the Council Chambers in City Hall.
