New Main Street Business To Host Chamber Coffee Friday

WAYNE – A new main street business will officially be joining the community of Wayne after opening their doors in late December.

Join Ekeko Blends & Goods, LLC on Friday, January 11 for the weekly Chamber Coffee event beginning at 10 a.m. Ekeko Blends is located at 110 Main Street.

A ribbon cutting is also scheduled following Chamber updates and information about the juice bar and café business.

Dr. Mytzy Rodriguez-Kufner is the owner and explained the meaning of Ekeko.

“Comes from the little pre-Incan deity of wealth, health and good fortune,” said Rodriguez-Kufner. “So, that’s why we named the place after and it’s a little good luck charm that’s used in Peru.”

Rodriguez-Kufner has enjoyed being part of Wayne Community Schools as the interpreter and part-time guest teacher since moving to Wayne in 2013.

About a year and a half ago, Rodriguez-Kufner began to look at buildings in Wayne as the antique elevator and art fit with her image for the little café on Main Street. Getting the permits was the first step.

“Acquisition of the permits was the longest,” Rodriguez-Kufner added. “Then it might have taken us maybe three weeks to do everything we needed to. With supporting help from family and friends we were able to get this up and going pretty quickly.”

Ekeko Blends & Goods, LLC was granted a food permit from the Department of Agriculture on December 18, 2018 before customers were served on December 27.

Most of the Ekeko Blends & Goods products are imported from Peru South America while the fruits, vegetables and other foods are bought from distributors in the U.S.

The mission statement of Ekeko Blends and Goods, LLC is to, “provide high quality cold-pressed juices, blended juices and smoothies made from fresh fruits and vegetables that are locally and/or regionally grown as well as from tropical regions by serving and satisfying the nutritional needs of health-conscious consumers through high quality products in an educational setting.”
