GRAND ISLAND, NE – The Nebraska State Fair and Aksarben Stock Show were awarded in five categories by the International Association of Fairs and Expos (IAFE). This was apart of IAFE’s Hall of Honor contests. Additionally, these Nebraska shows placed in five other areas.
The Aksarben Stock Show received two first place awards for Innovations in Sponsorships. One was for sponsorship exposure during COVID-19 and the other was for was the Aksarben Pig Challenge presented by Farm Credit Services of America.
Nebraska State Fair won first-place for the Hall of Honor Communication Award. This was for the statewide tree bombing event.
Aksarben was awarded first-place for an Agricultural award. This was for its partnerships with outside groups, which includes the Aksarben Purple Ribbon Reception, Grand Island Rotary presentation, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s (UNL) College of Agriculture.
A Competitive Award was won by the fair for taking COVID prevention measures at its competitive exhibits.
The fair was given third place for partnerships with outside groups. This was due to the Hornaday masks provided at the event and the UNL designed hand sanitizer units.
Aksarben secured second place for agricultural tradeshow booths and interactions.
The fair finished second for two awards in the Competitive category. A virtual tour of the Education Department, which included a short video finished second place. The other was for a Statehood Day recognition event, with the NEBRASKAland Foundation.
Finally, the fair earned third place for the virtual judging of science projects over Zoom.
The IAFE represents more than 1,100 fairs around the world. These contests are open to all fairs and expos.
