Nebraska State College System Board Of Trustees Select Next Chancellor

WAYNE – In late September the board of trustees of the Nebraska State College System announced four finalists and earlier this week the next chancellor was selected.

Each of the finalists visited Nebraska to participate in an interview at the board of trustees meeting this past Sunday and Monday with a vote determining who the next chancellor will be.

An employment agreement with Paul Turman Ph.D. was unanimously selected by the board of trustees to serve as the new chancellor. Turman is the University of South Dakota system vice president for academic affairs.

Other finalists were Thom D. Chesney (president of Brookhaven College in Farmers Branch, Texas; John L. Kuehn (doctor of veterinary medicine from Heartwell/serving in Nebraska Legislature) and Rusty L. Monhollon, PH.D. (assistant commissioner with the Missouri Department of Higher Education in Columbia).

Chancellor Stan Carpenter is retiring following his 18 years in the state college system. The system features Wayne State, Chadron State and Peru State colleges where the chancellor oversees the presidents at all three institutions.

As the state college system chancellor, Turman will serve as the chief executive officer (CEO) and chief administrative officer reporting to the board of trustees. Responsibilities as chancellor, include policy implementation and system administration by providing vision, leadership, planning, advocacy, coordination and management for the system with a commitment to quality management.
