DIXON COUNTY – A proposed project identified as ‘North of Dixon – South of Martinsburg’ would improve approximately 9.57 miles of U.S. Highway 20 located in Dixon County.
According to a release from the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT), this proposed project would begin about 0.23 miles west of the junction of US-20 and Nebraska Highway 116, at mile marker 399.15 and end about 0.79 miles east of the east junction of US-20 and Nebraska Highway 9, at mile marker 408.71.
Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the spring of 2020 and could be completed by the fall of 2021.
The purpose of the project is to preserve the transportation asset, improve the reliability of the transportation system and perpetuate the mobility of the traveling public. Current conditions of the exiting roadway and bridges has brought forward the proposed project.
The improvements would consist of milling and resurfacing the roadway, surfaced shoulders as well as drives and intersections with asphalt. Several structures will be replaced by a concrete box culvert, others receive repairs and an overlay along with a fly-by lane near the junction of US-20 and N-9.
Additional work would consist of moving the intersection of 5835 Ave. at US-20 to the west to accommodate new bridge guardrail.
The NDOT also has another proposed project in the area that would occur at the same time identified as ‘E. Jct. US-20 – N-12’. The project would begin at the east junction of N-9 and US-20 and extend northeast to the junction of N-9 and Nebraska Highway 12.
The proposed project would be constructed under traffic with lane closures controlled by appropriate traffic control devices and practices. Suggested alternate routes for local traffic to be used during the proposed ‘North of Dixon – South of Martinsburg’ project would be 583 Ave. or Nebraska Highway 9.
