Monday Rollover In Cedar County Leads To One Fatality

HARTINGTON – According to a press release from the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, a rollover accident left one Yankton man dead and a woman in critical condition Monday afternoon.

At approximately 4:17 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a one-vehicle accident on 898th Road roughly one-half mile east of 559th Ave. in Cedar County.

A Ford Explorer driven by 26-year-old Keannan Simpson lost control and entered the north ditch, rolling multiple times. A passenger in the vehicle, Mikayla Waggoner, 25, was ejected. Both were transported to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, where Simpson later died as a result of his injuries. Waggoner was later transported to Sioux Falls and is in critical condition.

According to the press release, seatbelts were not in use at the time of accident. The accident remains under investigation by the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office. Yankton EMS and Yankton Fire assisted at the scene.
