LINCOLN – After advancing to state in late November, the Wayne High mock trial team was in action earlier this week.
From the Justice and Law Enforcement Center in Lincoln, the Wayne red mock trial team faced three schools in two days. The team went 2-1 to place fourth.
Wayne began the week on Monday by defeating Fillmore Central and Bellevue West before falling to Columbus Scotus, who eventually placed third Tuesday.
Head mock trial coach Josh Johnson stated, “the kids competed well and represented Wayne well.”
Members of the state qualifying mock trial team were Christopher Archer, Easton and Treyton Blecke, Isaac Davis, Sydney Redden, Liam Spieker, Ruben Vega and Christopher Woerdemann.
After going 6-0 in the Region 6 Mock Trial competition held at the Madison County Courthouse, the Wayne red team finished 8-1 after state.
Omaha Duchesne Academy topped Creighton Prep to be named the 2019 state mock trial champion.
Creighton Prep has been crowned state champions the past three years while Duchesne Academy won back-to-back in 2014/2015 and Omaha Skutt won five straight (2009-2013).
