WAYNE – Assistant Director, Irene Mock with Wayne Area Economic Development recently joined the “View from Wayne America” discussing upcoming events in town along with a previous trip to the State Capital.
The complete interview can be found below.
In March, WAED participated in Northeast Nebraska Chambers Day in Lincoln. The group combined with chambers of commerce from Norfolk, Blair, West Point, Fremont and Columbus.
“We spent some time down at the Capital,” said Mock. “We treated the Senators that represent those communities to a lunch. We also invited several speakers via zoom to speak to the groups back home.”
A video was also shared with the area Senators that lined up the priorities of northeast Nebraska showing that everyone is working together as a region. Members talked more about what’s important for businesses in each community and what their business needs are.
Wayne Area Economic Development has also been busy planning the annual banquet. The new date is Sunday, May 23 at the Beaumont Concert and Event Hall as Mock added tickets are going fast.
“We have reserved tables for eight and then we also are able to give you individual tickets for $30 each,” Mock added. “So, if you do want to have that reserved table or have your ticket it’s not too early to commit to that.”
Costs for a table of eight including eight drink tickets will be $275.
Items are also being collected for the silent auction which funds a scholarship provided by the chamber along with the group looking for individuals to provide a special sweet for the dessert auction. The dessert auction money will go towards enhancing the trail. Awards will also be announced during the banquet.
The 41st annual Wayne Chicken Show is scheduled for Friday, July 9 – Sunday, July 11. Mock mentioned the group is looking for volunteers.
“If someone has an event that they would like to put on as part of the chicken show,” Mock mentioned. “Or a game or a contest or anything that coincides that weekend. Let us know, we’re putting together the schedule and we can help you market that event.”
The Chicken Show Committee meets on the second Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m.
There’ll be a retirement open house and card shower for Cindy Brummond at State Nebraska Bank & Trust. Stop by and say goodbye on Cindy’s last day after nearly 40 years with SNB between 2 – 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31.
This Friday’s Chamber Coffee/ChamberPercs host is Magnuson Hopkins EyeCare honoring Melia Hefti on her retirement. You can send or drop off a card at the office.
