Memorial Day Weekend Activities At Ponca State Park

PONCA – Ponca State Park has a full weekend of fun planned for Saturday and Sunday. Starting on Saturday, May 25 activities will begin at 9 a.m. till 11 a.m. with an introduction to archery and shotgun courses at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex. Cost is $1 for 6 arrows and $7 per box of shotgun shells.

Three different sessions of backwater kayaking will take place at 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. Meet and pay at the Resource and Education Center. Cost is $15 and participants must be at least 12 years old.

The Critter Corner program is back and welcomes all ages at 11:30 a.m. Participants will be able to see and touch live critters, furs, feathers, and more. This free event is at the Resource and Education Center.

At 1 p.m. check out the Are you a Snail? Program at the West Shelter House. This is a free event.

At 3 p.m. test your fire making skills. Learn various techniques and prepare different kits to help you on your next outdoor adventure no matter what the weather may bring. Preregister and meet at the Resource and Education Center. Cost is $2 per craft with a limit of 25 crafts.

There will also be three separate hayrack ride tours to close out Saturday’s festivities. They will begin at 5 p.m. with two others held at 6:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Pre-register at the front desk of the Resource and Education Center. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for kids, and kids 5 and under are free. There is a maximum of 25 people per ride but there must be at least 10 interested. No alcohol or pets allowed.

On Sunday, May 26 start the morning off with an introductory course in tomahawk and atlatl throwing at 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Meet at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex with cost being $1 per 6 throws.

At 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. try your skills in backwater kayaking. Pre-register and pay at the Resource and Education Center. Cost is $15 per person and participants must be at least 12 years of age.

From 1 p.m.-3 p.m. learn the basics of fishing during the beginners fishing clinic. Meet at the Resource and Education Center for this free activity.
