Memorial Day Service Planned For Wayne Monday, Visit Winside Museum This Weekend

WAYNE/WINSIDE – With Memorial Day approaching next Monday, the Wayne Consolidated Veterans group will be getting ready for their activities as well as a special exhibit may be viewed this weekend in Winside.

On Thursday, May 23 the Wayne group will be setting up flags for Memorial Day at 6 p.m. from Greenwood Cemetery.

Then on Monday, May 27, Memorial Day services will be held at 10 a.m. from the cemetery in Wayne. In case of inclement weather, services will be moved inside the *Wayne Elementary gymnasium.

Wayne High band director, Alex Wieland would also like to invite any community members that are interested in playing in the band during the service. The group will perform the ‘Marches of the Armed Forces’ arr. by Michael Sweeney. Rehearsal will take place at 8:45 a.m. Monday. Clean-up and the taking down of flags will follow around 6 p.m. Monday night.

The Wayne Vet’s Club will be holding their monthly breakfast from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Sunday at the vet’s club.

 

Stop by the Winside Museum, located at 300 Main Street, to view a special exhibit collection of military uniforms and memorabilia this weekend. Free will donations are appreciated and the museum will be open from 2 – 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 25-26 as well as Monday, May 27 from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

 

A Veterans Memorial service in Concord will be hosted by the Concord-Dixon Cemetery Association on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the Evangelical Free Church in Concord, with the color guard by the Laurel Vets Post to follow at the cemetery. Veterans will be their special guests and are asked to enter together at the beginning of the program.
