WINSIDE – Officials with the Winside Legion family have announced their plans for the week leading up to Memorial Day.
According to a release, the group will place US flags and poppy wreaths on Veterans’ graves and Auxiliary flags on its members’ gravesite at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 26 from the Winside Cemetery.
The Winside Auxiliary Memorial Poppy Day will last between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday, Mary 28. Locations include Bomgaars, Pac N Save, Quality Foods, ACE Hardware and Home as well as downtown Wayne on Main Street to hand out poppies. Freewill donations are being accepted.

On Sunday, May 29, the group will set up Legion Hall at 4 p.m. for their Memorial Day Dinner planned on Monday, May 30. Members are being asked to have your salad and/or dessert to the Legion by 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 30.
Memorial Day is Monday May 30. A bus will depart from the Winside Legion at 7 a.m. and visit seven area cemeteries joined by the Post, Auxiliary, Sons, Juniors and Boy Scouts. A Memorial Day Program will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. at the Winside City Auditorium with a ceremony at the cemetery to follow. Dinner will be served until 1:30 p.m. at the Legion Post by American Legion Auxiliary members with free will donations being accepted.

Winside American Legion Auxiliary is also collecting 2023 memberships for all organizations as this is a perfect time to renew or for prospective new members to sign-up.
