Mamava suite aims to expand options for breastfeeding mothers

NORFOLK, NE — Convenience and comfort are often unavailable luxuries for breastfeeding mothers.

A new addition to Sunset Plaza Mall in Norfolk hopes to change that for mothers on the go.

Faith Regional Health Services partnered with Dial Properties to install a Mamava lactation suite in the mall as part of the hospital’s efforts to support mothers and babies.

“It doesn’t matter if they want to feed their infant at their home, on the go, at Sunset Plaza… we recognize there was a need to provide a space for mothers to be able to breastfeed no matter where they were,” Faith Regional Foundation Executive Director Jake Claussen said.

The Mamava Suite is spacious – with two benches and a fold-down table.  It’s convenient with power outlets and a smartphone unlocking system.

Claussen says the Mamava fits the habits of the new generation of mothers.

“People really want to continue their active lifestyle, they want to continue shopping, meeting friends, exercising, whatever it might be,” Claussen said.

The Mamava pod opened three weeks ago and Claussen says the hospital’s breastfeeding support group has given positive reviews.

“The Mamava provides that great option for those mothers who do want a little more privacy or maybe help with another child,” Claussen said.  “We’re just happy to support mothers and breastfeeding mothers no matter what.”
