Madison County Sheriff’s Office Responds To Sunday One Vehicle Rollover

MADISON – A one vehicle rollover was reported over the weekend in rural Madison County.

According to a release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement received a call on Sunday, January 16 at approximately 8:35 p.m. about the situation.

The rollover occurred near the intersection of 832nd Road and 544th Avenue located northwest of Madison, Nebraska.

Through the initial investigation it was found that at approximately 8:30 p.m. the vehicle, a Pontiac Grand Prix, ran off of the road causing it to roll, ejecting the driver. The driver, Shane Melcher (37 years of age), succumb to his injuries at the scene. Passenger Macaela Henkel (37 years of age) was flown from the scene by LifeNet helicopter for her injuries. Both occupants of the vehicle are residents of rural Meadow Grove.

Seatbelts were not in use by either occupant of the vehicle and alcohol may have been a contributing factor. The cause of the crash is currently under further investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Joining the Madison County Sheriff’s Office were Battle Creek Police Department and Battle Creek Fire and Rescue.
