WAKEFIELD – Tickets are on sale for this week’s upcoming production by the Little Red Hen Theatre in Wakefield to open Season 2022 “Be A Part of Our World!”.
‘For Peter Pan on her 70th Birthday’ by Sarah Ruhl will be showcased on Friday and Saturday, March 11 – 12 at 7 p.m. along with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 13.
Adam Goos, Managing Director at the Little Red Hen Theatre said this is a little bit more of a serious piece of theatre dealing with loss but also celebrates life as the play centers around five siblings.
“Who deal with the loss of their father and in the play, we see them in his hospital room, then we see them at his wake,” said Goos. “Then the play moves into kind of a never-land where we see these siblings come back and recreate Peter Pans’ story.”
This was a play that Goos read awhile ago and has been on his short list to put on stage at the Little Red Hen Theatre.
The group originally wanted to put on ‘For Peter Pan on her 70th Birthday’ last spring but Goos decided with everything in the pandemic he didn’t think it was the right time for the play.
“So, I rescheduled it to this year, and it seems like it’s the right time for us to kind of have a more contemplative experience in the theatre when we sit down and watch something a little bit issue-wise that I think we’re ready for to handle,” Goos added. “Last year everybody just wanted to laugh. This year, there are lots of laughs and entertainment in this but there is also a little more of a seriousness.”
Seating for this performance is the audience will be seated on all four sides with the stage in the middle of the room.
Goos mentioned it’s been a joy to watch the cast put the production together.
“I just am in awe of the work that they’re doing every time we sit down and rehearse,” Goos mentioned. “It just seemed like the most effortless thing to put together even though I know it’s an incredible amount of work, it’s a hard play to do. So, come out and support them and it will be a moving experience I promise.”
Tickets can be purchased online at littleredhentheatre.com, call the office at 402-287-2818 or stop by the theatre located at 316 Main Street in Wakefield.
Another upcoming special event will be “Rock-N-Remember” with Joseph Hall on Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23. Tickets are currently on sale online.
Auditions will be held in mid-May with dates to be announced soon for the summer musical Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’. A weeklong drama camp for youth in grades prek – eighth grade is being scheduled for June 13 – 18.
