Local Manufacturing Company Honored By Google, One Of Two Nebraska Companies Listed

WAYNE – Sand Creek Post & Beam in Wayne joined Speedway Motors of Lincoln as the two Nebraska companies of the 52 United States businesses selected in 2017 as a key to American economic success.

The Annual U.S. Economic Impact Report for 2017, global search engine and data analytics leader Google recognized Sand Creek Post & Beam where two executives were invited to a recent networking meeting. Titled, “Grow with Google Business Meetup”, the event lasted from June 13 – 15 where General Manager David Bird and Marking Director Cody Wortmann attended Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, CA.

Bird has been the GM for six years and talked more about the accomplishment.

“For someone like Google to actually step-up and say, ‘hey you guys are doing well and we appreciate what you do with it; panning out and working well for you and increasing your company’,” said Bird. “It was really quite and honor.”

Sand Creek has close to 2,000 buildings on the ground nation-wide. The company custom designs and sells post frame, post & beam and timber frames, ranging from horse barns, storage barns, hobby barns and workshops to high-end mountain homes and beautiful commercial barn-style venues.

Sand Creek is America’s leading manufacturer of wood barn, barn home and commercial post and beam kits that can be found nationwide, in several Canadian provinces and Australia. This family-owned business was founded by Len Dickinson and Jule Goeller in 2004. In 2013, an EF4 tornado hit the business community on the east side of Wayne where Sand Creek’s manufacturing facilities are located.

Bird said Sand Creek Post & Beam employees rallied and pulled everything together.

“The following day after the tornado I think just about every employee was meeting here at our office conjuring up a game plan as to what we’re going to do,” Bird added. “We didn’t want any of our customers miss a delivery deadline or have to suffer any more than what we did.”

The company rebuilt and became bigger and better, doubling their size of business in five years and is still going on about a 15% year-over-year growth currently.

Google choses roughly 50 companies each year to honor for their significant economic impact, mainly one per state.

Other honors for Sand Creek Post & Beam include: Nebraska Third District Excellence in Economic Development Award in 2016; Nebraska Business Development Center’s Sustainability of the Year Award in 2015 and the Small Business Administration’s Nebraska Business of the Year in 2011.

Sand Creek had a project chosen in Timber Home Living Magazine’s The Best Log & Timber Homes of the Year special collector’s edition for 2018, being named Google’s “Nebraska Spotlight”. They also were pictured on a cover photo during the October 2017 issue while being named one of the ten DIY (Do It Yourself) barn companies highlighted by Dwell Magazine in February 2017.

Both Bird and Wortmann confirmed that video advertising is the way the market is trending.

“We’ll be incorporating quite a bit more video advertising and marking into our repertoire so to speak,” Bird announced. “Looking forward to that. We’ve got our own in-house video and editing department, so it fits right into what we’re already doing.”
