WAYNE – Kids going back to school were able to get their end-of-summer trim during a fundraising event for Wayne Elementary Boosters Wednesday.
During a three-hour window, Hair Envy Salon located at 215 Main Street hosted a Cut-A-Thon.
Tanya Gamble has been the salon owner of Hair Envy for nearly four years and talked about the decision to host the event.
“WEB does so much for the school and for the teachers,” said Gamble. “So, it’s just nice to be able to give back to them and then they can divvy up wherever funds are needed and do things for the school. So, it’s nice to give back to our kids in the community.”
Hair Envy recently became the second L’ANZA Healing Center in Nebraska in July. Gamble added both L’ANZA’s mission and her own is to pay it forward and inspire each other through actions.
“As a L’ANZA Healing Center, L’ANZA also offers us support that we need,” Gamble added. “Business, building, education and a passionate team that dedicates to our success. As a salon owner, also as a business and as individuals.”
Dry hair cuts were offered at a $10 minimum donation for all ages. With Hair Envy being a L’ANZA Healing Center, L’ANZA matched donations up to $300 towards WEB. Backpack donations were also being accepted for the Wayne County Family Coalition. Gently used backpacks were brought to the event and were handed out to children in the Wayne community in need.
Stylists donated their time to the event along with a L’ANZA Educator that was offering hair cuts as well.
Hair Envy Salon is open Monday – Thursday from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., on Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday’s by appointment. The salon also offers walk-in hair cuts between 4 – 7 p.m. Tuesday nights. Call 402-833-1100 for an appointment.
Gamble mentioned an educator has previously visited the salon every two months.
“Now I feel as a L’ANZA Healing Center,” Gamble mentioned. “We’ve already had two educators in our salon, we’ve had a few events (and) we’re going to go down to the B.I.G. Show down in New Orleans in February.”
Hair Envy Salon also provided product giveaways, product discounts and more giveaways.
Within the raffle included donations from Moments Portrait Boutique, AquaPop, Hair Envy, Serenity Massage Therapy, Family First Dental and IKT. All Main Street businesses also helped out by offering a free raffle ticket by purchasing an item from their store.
Join the Wayne Elementary Boosters for a Back to School Open House on Monday, August 13 from 5 – 7 p.m. Lil’ Blue decals will be for sale, along with t-shirt order forms and a free will donation dinner.
